Highland Dance at SSD
Linda Napier - Highland
I began highland dancing at the age of 6 through to adult having had a successful competitive career – my dance teachers being Wilma Tolmie and Marion Lawson.
I went on to come a Member of the SDTA,BATD and fellow member and Examiner with the UKA who all my students take their annual examinations through, many of which have now become professional teachers themselves.
The Napier School of Dance was established 45 years ago and during this time I have trained several champion dancers who have won titles both at home and overseas including United Kingdom, British, Commonwealth, Scottish, North American and World Championships.
Apart from competitive Highland Dancing my students enjoy choreography and take part in shows at local theatres and events in the local area.
At present I teach classes in Arbroath and primarily now in Blairgowrie at Strathmore School of dance where the class has progressed from all beginner to several competitors now winning medals and trophies all over Scotland.
I am a delegate to RSOBHD and represent the Highland Dancers Association of Ontario Canada attending meetings on their behalf .
I am fortunate to have the support of my husband Alan who helps out whenever needed from helping on exam day to being a volunteer at competitions.
My son Tony having spent many summers competing in Canada now lives in Alberta Canada where he is a football coach and also teaches highland dance.
Being on the RSOBHD judges panel I have been fortunate to have been invited to adjudicate, examine and teach workshops at home in Scotland, Australia, Canada, USA and Russia.
Highland Dancing is my passion and having met so many wonderful people and made life long friends I feel very fortunate to be part of the “Highland Dance Family” and also fortunate to have been asked by Jenni Peters from Strathmore School of Dance to teach Highland within her school a few years ago where the class has gone from strength to strength and my main teaching focus.
